About Homer
A PhD student at Temple University CIS. Homer's research focuses on online social networks and mobile application. Recently, homer start to work on improving online services by studying information spreading pattern from social sciences (e.g., public choose theory). Homer completed his M.Sc in advanced computer science at the University of Manchester UK, where he worked on user experience, web standards, and web accessibility.
Before studying PhD, he worked in England for two companies, as their financial software project manager (07-09) and IT manager (06-07), which are responsible for overall developing and delploying of web-based applications on enterprise mashups.
Former Projects
"Detecting fake users in online social networks" [PDF] uses properties of social graph to identify spammer on social networks. Twitter data collector and a browser plug-in are developed by homer to demo it. This project wins the most Popular Project Award of ACM future computing 2010 at Temple Univ.
Visual Complexity Rankings and Accessibility Metrics (ViCRAM) at Human Centered Web Lab, University of Manchester UK. This research proposed a metric to measure visual complexity of web pages. to relate the user's implicit understanding of a visually complex Web page with its layout. Homer's M.Sc dissertation [PDF] also implements a proxy and benchmark its performance by analyzing DOM.
FinanceLOGIX, a financial factor system, provides payroll services to recruitment agencies. Homer was its project manager, which is responsible not only its software developing, but also business analysis, such as incoming tax processing rules (UK HMRC's PAYE).
